SOLID TIMES FOR STILWELL AT PRE-BEIJING CAMP
Today at the Terry Fox Stadium in Ottawa, Ontario, the Paralympic Athletics Team headed to Beijing gathered for a pre-Beijing track meet in conjunction with the Ontario Summer Games.
"It has been a while since I have been in Ottawa and I forgot how beautiful it is."
"With my new zipp disc wheels on I was able to get a good feel for the effects on my racing. I now have some major decisions to make in the next few weeks to decide if I will use them in Beijing."
"I am completely satisfied with the results of my races today."
STILWELL TURNS UP THE HEAT AT BOILING POINT
Wheelchair racer Michelle Stilwell had another successful day at the track in Windsor, Ontario on Saturday. Although the morning brought in thundershowers, the clouds lifted around 6:30pm to set the stage for two World Record times for Stilwell.
“I am thrilled that I have had the opportunity to break the records on Canadian soil.” In May of this year Stilwell broke the 100m and 200m records at an IWAS sanctioned event in Ibach, Switzerland. Those times have yet to be ratified because there was no drug testing performed.
“It is unfortunate that I was not able to have my first records become official, but I knew I had the strength and determination to do it again. I am in a critical stage of my training with only 56 days left until Beijing. This shows that I am right on track for good things to come in Beijing."
Stilwell crossed the finish line in the 100m in a time of 20.06 and blew away the previous record in the 200m in a time of 35.92. Next up for Stilwell is a pre-Beijing camp in Ottawa in early August.

Welcome to the land of sweltering heat...Phoenix with its arid climate, and very hot summers. Today the temperature is around 40 degrees and tomorrow it is supposed to reach 43! Obviously for this reason we are not at the track from 11 am until 5 pm. Tonight I will race the 100m against four other American women at 6:40pm.I am hoping the temperature is at a comfortable 38 degrees by then. I have my spray bottle ready for misting and the ice vest is frozen ready to be put into action.
Phoenix is located on the banks of what is now the normally dry Salt River (with the exception of Tempe Town Lake). The Salt River course runs westward through the city of Phoenix; the riverbed is normally dry except when excess runoff forces the release of water from the six dams upriver. The city is also known by its nickname, The Valley of the Sun or The Valley because the city is surrounded by mountains on all sides. It is a very different view than what I am used to in lush and green British Columbia. Here things are brown and dry with a whole lot of cactuses!
Oh yeah, and for those of you who think I live this glamorous jet setting lifestyle...be sure to ask me about my day long trip to get here yesterday and you will soon realize the amount of effort and patience that goes into this job!
Cheers
