Peter Lawless

Peter Lawless

Peter has been coaching wheelchair athletics since 1998. He has coached athletes from all levels from entry to sport to the Paralympic Games. Peter has been the Head Coach of the BC Provincial Team at both the Western Canada Summer Games in 1999 and 2003 and the Canada Summer Games in 2001. He has also taken various members of the Provincial team to the annual Canadian National Team Training Camp and attended the 2002 World Championships in Lille, France, the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens, Greece and the 2006 World Championships in Assen, Holland. Peter is one of the first (and only) wheelchair athletics coaches to ever be certified at Level 4 of the National Coaching Certification Program.

Peter is a constant advocate for the inclusion of wheelchair athletics and wheelchair athletes in races around the Province. He continues to work on the premise that wheelchair athletes are athlete first and foremost and the wheelchair is merely a piece of sporting equipment. With this in mind he seeks to not only assist his athletes in achieving athletic goals but to educate the broader population about the intrinsic value of athletics - regardless of any perceived disability.
